It's a little late now, but I just wanted to post up some of the pics from our Introductions... creative show. It was amazing, and even more people than we had anticipated attended! Truth be told, we would've been happy if 10 people showed up, but it was more like 3x that amount!
I left some critique cards for people to fill out, as we want to know what everyone thinks! Hearing good stuff is all fine and dandy, but it's the criticism and what people didn't like that makes you grow and evolve as an artist.
The buzz was amazing, and we went well past our 9:30 end time. It definitely was a night of coffee, graphic design, mixed media & photography.
What's up everybody,
Just wanted to give a shout to anyone who'd like to come out tomorrow, Thursday Feb. 21 @ 7pm-9pm to a new Coffee House on 388 College St. called Kahawa Coffee House. It's a great little Coffee mecca hidden in downtown Toronto.
It's owned by one of my friends and she has graciously offered it to me and 2 of my creative friends to have a night of Coffee, Mixed Media, Photography and Graphic Design. It'll be a really casual evening with some of our pieces up and around the place and of course, some great coffee.
I've recently started full swing on my Design Studio, Realiz Designs, and will be showing some of the work that I've done over the years. There will also be a mixed Media Artist, Lazi (aka Justin) and a Photographer Kevin.
You can see some of our work online:
Kevin (Photography) - www.oldeyorke.ca/kevin.html
Justin (Mixed Media) - www.lazi.oldeyorke.ca
Shaun (Graphic Design) - www.realizdesigns.com
So if you're into Coffee, Mixed Media, Photography or Design, we'd love for you to come out. But the Coffee Shop is a very cozy place, so try to let me know if you can make it, message me back at at VOX if you'd like to come.
If not, we will try to make this a bi-monthly creative night for other people as well, let me know if you're interested! We'd love to show your work in there the next time!
Thanks, I hope to see you all there!

As a Graphic Design graduate, we've all learned about the importance of typography. Usually overlooked, especially by do-it-yourself "designers" who haven't quite placed an importance or learned about proper typography. (Now I don't mind people who want to learn about design and learn, but I'm talking about the ones who just don't care to learn about typography...)
Now here's a great little set of stickers from Design Police.... If you've ever joked with colleagues about the kearning of text, rivers, widows, even about an ad's font choices... this is for you!
My fav's:
"Comic Sans is Illegal"
"Please do no use Word ArtTM"
"Helvetica was an unimaginative choice"
the huge "WIDOW" sticker
"BAD IDEA"
and my personal fav "Unnecessary use of Photoshop effect"
These are great, but it also makes me feel like my old college professors to recognize and laugh about it....
Leave 'em a comment if you like 'em as much as I did!

I got my new Amazon order today
As a creative, I've been wanting to read Steven Pressfield's The War of Art for quite some time. I read about it in an article maybe a year ago, and it's been on my wish list since then. The Art of War needs no introduction, the famous book of war strategies by Sun Tzu, is still relevant today, used and applied to business warfare.
The War of Art is about the inner creative struggles, caused by what Pressfield calls Resistance, explains what it is that causes a creative person's struggles and ways how to identify and conquer them. And I believe all creative heads have experienced it at one point or another, perhaps even as a continual struggle.
I bought the The Art of War to build up my business acumen and strengthen my skills outside the creative side of my brain. Being in business now is scary, but with each passing day I continue to learn and strengthen my resolve and push to make this work.
Hopefully when I finish these books I can write more about them to help any of you out. I'm currently three-quarters finished The War of Art and started the first chapter of The Art of War. Let me know if you've read any of these and what you think.... Or even send me any other book recommendations you may have for the creative soul.....

Yes! I loved Arrested Development.... it was definitely too short a series! This is some great news!
It’s about time we saw the Bluths on the big screen
In an interview with XM Radio’s “The Ron & Fez Show” last week, Jeffrey Tambor, who played patriarch George Bluth Sr. on the cult sitcom Arrested Development, hinted that there might be a Bluth family reunion in the cards.
“In terms of Arrested Development,” he said, “I think I have good news - I think we’re going to make a movie. I talked to [executive producer] Ron Howard the other day, and he sort of hinted around that there’s a real push to get a movie made - of course, after the strike.”
Tambor went on to say that, should the project move forward, he’s definitely on board. “I said, without pausing, ‘I’m in.’ I loved doing that. And I know Jason [Bateman]’s on board too.”
Bateman, who played George’s son Michael, himself has confirmed as much. “I can confirm that a round of sniffing has started,” he says.
“Any talk is targeting a post-strike situation, of course. I think, as always, that it's a question of whether the people with the money are willing to give our leader, Mitch Hurwitz, what he deserves for his participation. And I can speak for the cast when I say our fingers are crossed.”
He can also speak for the millions of Arrested fans who were elated when the show was renewed for its third season, only to be cancelled once that season ended. So let’s all get our denim cutoffs and blue body paint ready, and hope that this film doesn’t end up with its titular condition.
