And I joined Facebook.
I pretty much always said I would not join Facebook.... Not because I was anti-Facebook, but rather because I knew it would take a lot of time out of the business activities...
ARGH!
But I had to weigh out the pros and cons of it all... and I bit the bullet.
It's been a fun ride thus far, seeing a lot of familiar faces and friends.... I understand a little bit now about "Facebook drama".
"Why didn't he invite me as a friend?"
"She wrote WHAT on your wall?"
And the whole prior beef thing....
hahaha
And I also joined the professional network site LinkedIn and creative networking site Behance.net.
For all the creatives out there, join BEHANCE.NET. I simply love it. The customizable features and portfolio gallery is clean, and there's some great artwork and creative work on that site. I'm on it every day and see something great I like.
Well, now that I have all these online social networking sites.... I probably won't have any time to even be sociable IN PERSON. It'll all be online.
Is that what social networking is all about? I'd rather see you in person...
So there's Myspace. and Friendster. Linkedin. Wayn.etc... now Facebook.
How many people are on the bandwagon?
I'm not. But doesn't mean I can't help you lemmings who are!
Check it. People are catching on, and by people I mean parents, jilted ex-lovers, and all sorts of miscreants. and those are just people on your friends list...There's also bosses, future employers, and creepy friends of friends who just wanna find more about you. All it takes is a name or knowing someone who knows you...
When I was at the mall, I walked by a group of teenage girls and caught part of their conversation. It went like this:
Girl 1: "Seriously?"
Girl 2: "Yeah, her dad went on myspace and found pictures of him with all these different girls."
Girl 1: "No way, is that why they broke up?"
Girl 2: "She's not allowed to go out with him any more!"
Wow. Smart dad. Dumb dude. But not really, because I'm sure enough people out there do the exact same thing and don't think of things like myspace girls having "dads". Alas, we all want to look cool and put our cool face on, especially in social circles.
Online privacy is not laughing matter, and there are ways we can protect ourselves (on facebook at least)... here's how:
How to use Facebook so your boss or future bosses won't find your dirty dirt.
I read a bit of it (but not all, I'm not part of facebook, remember?), and while quite technical, there's a lot you should know that goes on behind the scenes. (VOX! don't betray my trust okay.!)
It's a little tidbit I found on lifehacker, one of my definite go-to sites everyday. I don't use all the info I find, but I always know it's worth looking through in case I do find my personal diamonds or gems. If you don't know, now you know. What you do with the power of the information is up to you. What good knowing something if you don't put it to use?
That's my piece. comments? helpful?
